Can Vitamin B12 deficiency be hereditary?

Yes, certain hereditary conditions, like pernicious anemia, can lead to Vitamin B12 deficiency. Pernicious anemia is caused by the inability to produce intrinsic factor, which is necessary for B12 absorption. Inherited conditions that affect the digestive system, such as celiac disease or Crohn’s disease, can also contribute to poor absorption of Vitamin B12.
