The fructosamine test is similar to the HbA1c test but measures blood sugar levels over a shorter period, typically the last 2-3 weeks, instead of 2-3 months. It assesses the glycated form of proteins other than haemoglobin. The fructosamine test may be used in situations where short-term glucose control needs to be monitored, such as during pregnancy or after starting a new diabetes medication. While both tests provide valuable information, the HbA1c test is more commonly used for long-term monitoring of diabetes control.
