Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that regulates the thyroid gland's production of T3 and T4 hormones. In a thyroid function test (TFT), measuring TSH levels helps determine whether the thyroid is functioning properly. If TSH is high, it usually indicates hypothyroidism, where the thyroid isn't producing enough hormones. If TSH is low, it may indicate hyperthyroidism, where the thyroid is overactive. TSH is often used alongside T4 and T3 measurements to provide a full picture of thyroid health, guiding diagnosis and treatment decisions.
