A thyroid function test (TFT) helps assess whether thyroid nodules are affecting hormone production. If the nodule is producing excess thyroid hormones, TSH levels will be low, indicating hyperthyroidism. Nodules that don't produce hormones may not alter TSH, T3, or T4 levels. While TFTs provide information about thyroid function, they don’t directly diagnose nodules. Ultrasound or fine-needle aspiration biopsy is used to assess the size, structure, and potential malignancy of thyroid nodules, alongside TFT results.
