ALT (alanine transaminase) and AST (aspartate transaminase) are enzymes measured in an LFT to assess liver health. ALT is more liver-specific, indicating direct liver cell damage, while AST is found in the liver, heart, and muscles. Elevated ALT is usually more indicative of liver inflammation.
