A rapid HIV test provides results in as little as 20 minutes and is often used for initial screening. It uses oral fluid or a small blood sample to detect HIV antibodies. Lab tests, including antigen/antibody and nucleic acid tests (NATs), are more sensitive and can detect HIV earlier. They are typically used for confirmatory testing or in high-risk cases.
