Ferritin levels are generally higher in men than in women due to differences in iron requirements and losses. Women of reproductive age often have lower ferritin levels due to menstrual blood loss, pregnancy, and lactation. Postmenopausal women may experience ferritin levels closer to men’s due to reduced iron loss.
