IgM and IgG are types of antibodies that the immune system produces in response to an infection. In the context of Dengue ELISA tests, IgM antibodies are usually the first to be produced by the body, appearing within a few days to a week after the onset of symptoms. A positive IgM result indicates a recent or current dengue infection. IgG antibodies, on the other hand, appear later, usually around the second week of infection, and can persist in the blood for years. A positive IgG result suggests past exposure to the dengue virus or a secondary infection. Testing for both IgM and IgG antibodies provides a comprehensive understanding of the infection status, helping to distinguish between recent and past infections and identify primary and secondary infections.
