An elevated ESR with a normal CBC can still indicate inflammation or chronic disease. Conditions such as arthritis, autoimmune disorders, or even mild infections may cause a high ESR while leaving blood counts within normal ranges. Certain chronic conditions, such as lupus or temporal arteritis, can show elevated ESR levels without significantly affecting red or white blood cell counts in the CBC. This combination warrants further investigation to identify the cause of inflammation.
