    The Gram Staining test is used to detect and classify bacterial infections based on how bacteria react to a staining procedure. In this test, a blood sample is first stained with a purple dye. A subsequent solvent application will cause the bacteria to either keep the purple colour or turn pink or red. Gram-positive bacteria remain purple, while Gram-negative bacteria change colour.
