    The Anti-nuclear Antibody (ANA) test is used as a primary test to help analyze a person for autoimmune disorders that affect many tissues and organs throughout the body. It is most often used as one of the tests to help diagnose systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, a positive ANA test by itself does not diagnose any particular disease.

    The Anti-nuclear Antibody test: Analyzes the amount and pattern of antinuclear antibodies in the blood. The immune system of the body is mainly responsible for differentiating between the body’s own cells and foreign cells, like pathogens. Once the foreign cells have been identified, they are then targeted and destroyed.In autoimmune disorders, the immune system is not able to recognize certain cells as the body’s own cells and starts an immune response against them, which results in their destruction.These antinuclear antibodies (ANA) are autoantibodies that are produced against protein markers present in the nucleus of certain cells in the body. They are produced in a number of autoimmune diseases but are most commonly produced in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

Pls note the sample taking covered early morning visit, for a patient aged 90+!!
